Lawyer

Santiago is a practicing lawyer since 1993. He has worked as in-house legal counsel in international companies and practiced as an attorney. From 2010 to 2015, he headed, as General Counsel, the Legal Department of the Spanish Football Players Union (AFE).

Santiago’s focus of practice is sports and business law, mainly in the private and commercial law areas.

While currently Santiago is a member of the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber; formerly, he participated, in his position as AFE Head of Legal, at the dual Spain FA–AFE and La Liga–AFE Committees. He was also a member of the committee tasked with monitoring the conversion of Spanish football clubs into Limited Liability Sport Companies, under the auspices of the Spanish Secretary of State for Sports.

Santiago regularly participates as speaker at congresses, conferences and panels both nationally and internationally, especially in the sports law field. In addition, he lectures in a number of masters and postgraduate programs.

Santiago has broad experience in advising athletes, sports agents, and professional sport clubs on contractual matters, as well as representing clients before the Jurisdictional Committee of the Spain Football Association and the Spanish Courts, in sports law-related litigation.

He is a member of the Spanish Sports Law Association and the Commission on Sports Law at the Valencia Bar Association.
